Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam. It is a mendatory religious duty for the muslims who can afford it financially and can undertake this duty with the condition that their families may not suffer in terms of financial assistance in his absence. This is the outward connotation of this Hukum. The inward connotation of this Hukum is to maintain special intentional bond (taqarrub) with Allah SWT. This thing can be understood by pondering upon the verse in which Allah SWT says that “Their meat will not reach Allah not will their blood, but what reaches him is piety from you .Thus have we subjected them to you that you may glorify Allah for that (to)Which He has guided you; and give good tidings to the doers of the good. “(Surah22Aayat37)
Here the word piety is the main word which determines the objective of the ritual of sacrifice being performed in the Hajj. The word “piety” literally means “being conscious or cognizant of Allah SWT”.Some times it gives the meaning of “fear of Allah”. Keeping it’s lexical meaning in consideration the people who conscious or fearing to Allah SWT are mutating” .But in the words of Ibn Abbas RA Muttaqin are the believers who avoid Shirk with Allah SWT and who work in his obedience. So according to his view avoiding shirk and obeying his commandments means that there is taqwa in the heart of believer .Shirk in terms of niyyah means to perform any obligatory ritual for any being other than Allah SWT . So good deeds (‘amal al salih) which are done with the intention to appease Ghair al Allah have been categorised as Shirk. It is mentioned in a hadith that whosoever offers salah for pretending himself a worshipper is doing shirk, similarly whosoever fasts with same purpose is doing shirk and whosoever offers sadaqah with the intention that people may call him philanthropist is doing shirk”This tradition makes it clear that taqwa is “istikhlaas fi al ‘amal” i.e doing ‘amal only for pleasing Allah SWT. So the big objective behind the Hajj is to attain “taqqarrub” of Allah SWT .It is why that Prophet taught us to recite Talbiyyah while performing ‘aamal ul Hajj, "Labbaika Allahumma Labbaik, Labbaika la sharika laka labbaik. Innal-hamda wan-ni'mata laka wal-mulk, la sharika lak (Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Verily all praise and blessings are Yours, and all sovereignty, You have no partner).
